Bone Meal is a naturally sourced feed where nutrients are taken up efficiently due to longer periods of release in the soil.

It is slow release and stimulates strong healthy root growth to help establish sturdy new hedges and trees and this mostly comes from the calcium contained in Bone Meal assisting in the production of vigorous and healthy cells. In addition to this it enables plants to store and transfer energy for developing flowers and fruit.

It’s an organic slow release fertiliser which enriches the soil encouraging strong and healthy root growth. It’s excellent used at the time of planting and we also recommend it as a top dressing in spring for established hedges – even hedges need to be fed!

Bone Meal is a naturally sourced feed specially formulated to encourage strong root growth in trees, shrubs hedges and vegetables. The balance of phosphorus, nitrogen and calcium are gently released into the soil over an extended period of time enabling efficient nutrient uptake.

When planting you simply mix a small sparing handful with the back-filling soil when planting, but slightly less for small closely spaced plants such as Box and Lavender. If applying as a top dressing after the plants are in then it should be well incorporated into the soil with a rake or garden fork and watered well in so that as little as possible is left on the surface soil to attract dogs, foxes or badgers or any other animal that may sniff it out.

Unlike RootGrow, which is applied to the roots of the plants, Bone Meal should be mixed through the top soil from the planting hole before re-filling ie not put in direct contact with the roots.

Do not use Bone Meal where cattle, sheep, goats and deer have access. Bone Meal is also not recommended for households with pets.

As a rough guide 1kg of Bone Meal is sufficient for 15 metres of hedge planting.

Apply 4-5 handfuls per m2 (140-175g) Soil Improver – Fork in feed to produce nutrient rich soils. Apply 3-4 handfuls per m2 (105-140g) Works best with: Trees, Shrubs, Hedges and Root Vegetables
